Mickey Mouse is returning to where it all began. The Disney icon and his pals will star in a new series of 19 animated shorts, which will premiere on Disney Channel starting Friday, June 28.

Disney says the new Mickey Mouse shorts will contain contemporary themes, but also pay homage to the art direction and style of the original 1920s and 1930s cartoons.

Most recently, Mickey Mouse was the centerpiece of the preschool-driven Disney Junior series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

Paul Rudish (Dexter's Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls) will executive produce the new shorts. Each cartoon takes place in a different setting, such as Santa Monica, New York, Paris, Beijing, Tokyo, Venice and the Alps. Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto are also a part of the new shorts. A companion online game, 'Mickey Delivery Dash,' has already launched on Disney.com.
